Prosthetic Components

Choosing a prosthetic component involves considering several factors like lifestyle, amputation level, comfort, budget, and future needs. It's crucial to consult with a prosthetist or orthopedic specialist for personalized recommendations. Here at First State DME, we can assess your individual requirements and guide you through the process, ensuring the chosen prosthetic is a good fit for your needs and goals.

Prosthetic Foot

A prosthetic foot is an artificial limb that replaces a missing foot, enabling individuals with lower extremity amputations to walk, stand, and participate in various activities. It's a crucial component of a prosthetic leg, designed to mimic the natural function and, sometimes, the appearance of a human foot.

Prosthetic Knee

A prosthetic knee is a component of a prosthetic leg, specifically designed to replace the function of a biological knee joint for individuals with a transfemoral (above-knee) amputation. It allows for controlled bending and straightening of the leg, providing stability when standing and enabling a more natural gait pattern.

Prosthetic Hip

In prosthetics and orthotics, a hip joint on a prosthetic device is an artificial joint designed to replace the natural hip joint, enabling movement and stability for individuals who have experienced amputation or have a hip joint that is severely damaged or non-functional. These prosthetic hip joints are engineered to mimic the natural movement of the hip, allowing for activities like walking, standing, and other daily tasks.

Pylon

A prosthetic pylon is a component of a lower limb prosthesis, essentially a tube or shaft that connects the prosthetic socket (which attaches to the residual limb) to the prosthetic foot. It's a critical part for weight-bearing and transferring forces between the socket and the foot. Pylons can be made of various materials like titanium, aluminum, or steel and may include shock-absorbing mechanisms

Socket

A prosthetic socket is the custom-made interface that connects a person's residual limb (the remaining part of the amputated limb) to the rest of the prosthetic device. It's a crucial component for weight-bearing, comfort, and control of the prosthesis. The socket's design is tailored to the individual's limb shape and amputation level, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit.

Liners/Sleeves

A prosthetic liner is a soft, protective interface worn between a person's residual limb (stump) and the prosthetic socket. It acts as a barrier, enhancing comfort, improving fit, and helping to suspend the prosthesis. Liners are crucial for comfort, skin health, and proper suspension of the prosthetic limb.
